Intro to Alicen

 ABOUT ME

My name is Alicen, and I have returned to college after staying home with my kids for the last decade. They are 15 and 18, and I homeschooled them both up through 8th grade. Now that they both attend public high school, I have time to devote to starting a new career.

I will get my Associate's in Visual Communication at the end of this term. Last term, I worked as the Assistant Marketing Director for the Commuter, and I will continue in that position this term. Working for the Commuter has been great. Not only did I get some of my classes paid for, but I also enjoyed the work, gained experience, and boosted my portfolio. 

Just recently, I've started doing some freelance work for the Greater Albany Public Schools Foundation. I hope to be a freelance designer or do contract work when I graduate. I love to paint and draw, especially watercolor. I've taught myself with YouTube videos and trial and error. 

GOALS FOR THIS CLASS

In the photography class I took last year, I learned to shoot artistic photographs. I'm taking Photojournalism so I can capture real life and amazing moments.

I got a Nikon Z5 for my birthday last fall. I've experimented, but I haven't spent as much time taking photographs as I would have liked. Taking a class not only encourages me to get out there because I have to complete assignment, but I can also learn from other students and the instructor.

I took an  entrepreneurship  business  class last year, but I want to learn more about marketing. I will likely work as a freelance graphic designer or start my own business once I get my degree, so any information I can gather before then   would help me there.  I love to paint and draw, especially watercolor. I've taught myself with YouTube videos and trial and error. I loved the photography class I took last year, and I just got a Nikon Z5 for my birthday. I'm enjoying experimenting, and photography is becoming my new favorite hobby.

Diane Arbus

  My favorite thing is to go where I’ve never been. -Diane Arbus   Diane Arbus was born Diane Nemerov on March 14, 1923. Her parents were the owners of Russeks Fifth Avenue department store. She came from a family of creatives. Her brother, Howard Nemerov, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, and her sister, Renée Sparkia, was an artist. After retiring from Russek’s, her father, David Nemerov, launched a second, successful career as a painter.   Her family was wealthy, but Arbus rejected that life and married young to leave that lifestyle that she considered “humiliating.” She married Allan Arbus in 1941 when she was 18, and they were a successful fashion photography team, and they contributed to Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Lexus Partners with Marvel's Eternals

This article on PR Newswire caught my eye because my family and I are big Marvel fans. We’re contemplating a group costume for Halloween, so ideas are welcome. I don’t want to paint myself green, or Gamora would be my first pick. Here’s the lowdown: Lexus has partnered with Marvel Studios in their new ad campaign. The Marvel film Eternals will open on November 5, and fans get an early look at one of the characters, a superhero named Kingo, in the two minute piece titled Parking Spot . Although the commercial features a superhero, he grapples with a very human problem. Kingo, played by Kumail Nanjiani, is searching for a safe place to park his new Lexus, although most of us don’t face this task while the serpentining through a war zone.
