On the Job



On Saturday, April 16, Charley Carroll shows off Banksyland merchandise at the VIP event for the opening of the exhibit in Portland, Ore. Carroll got the job through TaskRabbit. He was originally hired to put together tables, but her ended up being a big part of the project. He set up projectors, monitors, and A.V. equipment to make the interactive experience possible for visitors. 

Banksyland is an exhibit of artwork by street artist Banksy, who's true identity has never been revealed. Some of the installation pieces are actual pieces pulled from their original outside location and are on loan. Others are photos or recreations. The exhibit also has inspirational quotes scattered among the art. 

Banksyland is located in The Factor Building at 226 SE Madison St, Portland, OR, 97214. Tickets are available online at banksyland.com. The exhibit is open daily from 11am-8pm through May 8, 2022. After that, the exhibit will go on a 22 city international touring exhibition stopping next in Honolulu, HI. 



Kenny Nguyen works on a manicure for a teen getting ready for prom on Friday, April 22 at Painted Nails & Spa LLC. The salon is located at 2732 Pacific Blvd SE, Suite 120, Albany, OR, 97321. After moving from Vietnam in 2000, he attended a cosmetology school in Portland to get certified. He has been a nail technician for 21 years. Kenny said that he likes doing nails because he gets to make people happy. When he's not working, he enjoys working out at the gym.

  ABOUT ME My name is Alicen, and I have returned to college after staying home with my kids for the last decade. They are 15 and 18, and I homeschooled them both up through 8th grade. Now that they both attend public high school, I have time to devote to starting a new career. I will get my Associate's in Visual Communication at the end of this term. Last term, I worked as the Assistant Marketing Director for the Commuter, and I will continue in that position this term. Working for the Commuter has been great. Not only did I get some of my classes paid for, but I also enjoyed the work, gained experience, and boosted my portfolio.  Just recently, I've started doing some freelance work for the Greater Albany Public Schools Foundation.
