On Saturday, April 16, Charley Carroll shows off Banksyland merchandise at the VIP event for the opening of the exhibit in Portland, Ore. Carroll got the job through TaskRabbit. He was originally hired to put together tables, but her ended up being a big part of the project. He set up projectors, monitors, and A.V. equipment to make the interactive experience possible for visitors. Banksyland is an exhibit of artwork by street artist Banksy, who's true identity has never been revealed. Some of the installation pieces are actual pieces pulled from their original outside location and are on loan. Others are photos or recreations. The exhibit also has inspirational quotes scattered among the art. Banksyland is located in The Factor Building at 226 SE Madison St, Portland, OR, 97214. My favorite thing is to go where I’ve never been. -Diane Arbus Diane Arbus was born Diane Nemerov on March 14, 1923. Her parents were the owners of Russeks Fifth Avenue department store. She came from a family of creatives. Her brother, Howard Nemerov, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, and her sister, RenĂ©e Sparkia, was an artist. After retiring from Russek’s, her father, David Nemerov, launched a second, successful career as a painter. Her family was wealthy, but Arbus rejected that life and married young to leave that lifestyle that she considered “humiliating.” She married Allan Arbus in 1941 when she was 18, and they were a successful fashion photography team, and they contributed to Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. She also modeled. They had two children together, Doon and Amy, and they divorced in 1959. Arbus also had a relationship with the art director and painter Marvin Israel. Explore LB was held on Thursday April 14 from 5-7pm at the Albany Campus. Faculty and staff who represent Linn-Benton's top programs in Healthcare, Agriculture, Business, Applied Industrial Technology, Arts & Humanities, Education & Social Services, and Science & Engineering set up displays where students could interact and get information. Interactive display tables, banners, and most importantly candy, made getting to know these programs fun and interesting. Advisors and support staff were available to answer student questions about resources available such as financial aid, accommodations, tutoring, dual enrollment with OSU, and more. One of those representatives was Julie Hessel, an Accommodation Specialist in the Center for Accessibility Resources. She was able to chat with current and prospective students about resources available on campus. Flowers-n-More Daryn Watson spoke with me about working at Flowers-n-More on Wednesday, March 30 when I came in to order a bouquet for a thank you gift. Employee Daryn Watson, owner Cindy Madden's daughter, creates a bouquet. Watson has worked in the shop since her mom bought the shop a few years ago. Nathali Coyazo has been an employee at Flowers-n-More since completing and internship at the shop through LBCC. Owner Cindy Madden chooses blooms from a local wholesaler. Lots of beautiful flower arrangements and gifts available in-store and on their website .
